The Gratitude Journals: How We’re Finding Joi This Year…

We could go all 2020 on you and talk about how many days are left in this challenging year. Or, we could do as the experts recommend and find the silver lining that leads to good mental health and inner joi. Our pros are taking the lead today, by opening up their gratitude journals and allowing us a peek into the things they are truly thankful for. Joi-n us, won’t you?

What I’m grateful for

“2020 has been a year faced with unbelievable circumstances; but through it all, my gratitude has grown immensely. I’m grateful for quarantine that gave me endless hours with my children. As a working mom I’ve never been able to experience this time with them. I’m grateful for a job that has shown it can evolve from being an in-person, day-to-day position, to communicating via zoom or social platforms. I’m grateful for the “pause button” of 2020, the reset opportunity from the daily hustle and grind.”

How I’m planning to make Thanksgiving meaningful this year

“I’m going to continue tradition! Even with fewer people sitting at our table, I’ll continue to cook all the traditional foods and Zoom-call with our families out of state. Memories, even the different ones, are something to cherish!”

How I spark joi

“2020 gave me a chance to reset my focus, get in a healthy routine, and rest when rest is needed! I have incorporated vitamins into my morning and evening routine -- Vitamin D and Biotin in the a.m., Valerian Root and Ferulic Acid in the evening. Social media became a heavy place at one point, so I choose to post a positive quote every two weeks regardless of my day. It sets the tone and keeps my mind in a positive place, as well as changes who and what type of accounts I follow!”

What I’m grateful for

“I’m thankful for FaceTime, as I get to speak ‘face to face’ with my family, who live all the way in Australia. It keeps me connected much more than just a phone call. It also allows be to see my nephews and niece as they grow each day. I’m thankful for being be part of the Joico team, who support and cherish the local hairdresser. I love the fact that Joico always thinks of different and better ways to support the industry through education, products, giveaways, and sweepstakes. It makes me happy to be part of a company that extends a helping hand to those in need. And I’m grateful to live in Miami, where the sun is mostly shining and the weather is warm. I think I’m solar-powered, so to be living in a warm city like Miami makes me so happy!”

How I’m planning to make Thanksgiving meaningful this year

“I love the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, as it’s always a time for me to slow down and spend quality time with family. We have close family spending Thanksgiving with us this year, so we plan to have lots of food and fun together.”

How I spark joi

“I try and spend a little time meditating/praying each morning, as it aligns my mind and thoughts with positive and loving emotions. I feel so much peace each time I do, which greatly impacts my day. I also try and hit the gym at least 4 times each week to keep my body strong and my mind healthy.”

What I’m grateful for

“Giving back on holidays: As a family, we prepare sack lunches and go out together to give to homeless. I’m also grateful for having a home in which my entire family can gather and make memories. Facetime and Zoom calls have become my number-1 priority. Seeing the faces of loved ones, family, friends is a true blessing.”

How I’m planning to make Thanksgiving meaningful this year

“I am planning to give out homeless meals per tradition – though our delivery will be slightly different for safety reasons. And instead of just including our immediate family on Zoom for Thanksgiving dinner, we are including our family overseas, as we haven't been able to travel to see them.”

"I have a book on my nightstand -- "Positive Thoughts, Poems, Prayers." I read one every morning. I also do Mindful Meditation, The Power of Positive Thinking Podcast.”

What I’m grateful for

“I'm grateful for the time that I get off to spend with my wife Angela and our little Frenchie Huebert, in our home. It always reminds me of how blessed we are when I'm home with them, enjoying what we work so hard for. I'm grateful for my family and weekly phone calls with my parents. Afterwards, I always Facetime my nieces and nephews to catch up with them. I even bought my mom one of those Portals for Mother's Day so that we could video-call more easily! And I'm grateful for having the ability to wake up every day and do what I love, and to be around clients/friends that I genuinely cherish and care about.”

How I’m planning to make Thanksgiving meaningful this year

“This year, Thanksgiving is definitely going to be looking a little different, and we are just planning to make the best of it. Unfortunately, it means not being able to spend it with my parents and siblings; but we are going to be intentional about going all-out by ourselves at home. We are planning to try out some new recipes and really just enjoy the experience of doing something special and intimate with just the two of us! And of course Huebert. LOL!”

“I definitely have a routine that I do that makes me start off my days right. I always start my day with my daily devotions, first and foremost. It helps me to remember Who is really in control of things -- and that is not me, LOL. After I finish my daily reading and devotion, I usually work out; and that really helps me to focus and get my day started on the right foot! Every once and a while, too, I like to go for a ride on my motorcycle with Angela to help me clear my head and enjoy nature and my surroundings.”

What I’m grateful for

“I’m grateful for a beautiful career, and the ability to create art every day -- and making people feel and look beautiful. I’m grateful for my Joico family and the strong bond we all have. And I’m grateful for my fiancé, Sebastian, as we experience life together by traveling and exploring the world.”

How I’m planning to make Thanksgiving meaningful this year

“I’m planning to do a Thanksgiving feast at my home with Sebastian for our closest friends and family. Sharing memories together that we normally wouldn’t be able to do because I’m always traveling.”

How I spark joi

“Although this year has been nothing like I expected, one word that always brings me back is, “GRATITUDE.” Every morning, I make a latté and go sit outside on my balcony for ten minutes, and name three things I am grateful for. It immediately puts me in a positive mood and give me so much perspective on how special life truly is.”
