Joico Guest Artist, Nathi Vega, admits it can be tricky to conceal gray on a Level 1 – 5 brunette. ✩ The vision: “This client is 27 years old and has a natural level 3 with 25% gray. I wanted to give her full gray coverage, while still incorporating highlights to keep it dimensional. Then, we decided to go in for a copper brunette glaze for a trendy look.”
✩ It’s all in the volume: “One of my pro tips when picking out a shade to cover grays — and you’re just depositing ONLY and not shifting the base — is to use 10 volume. Always use the LumiShine developer to get the best results!”

✩ Nathi’s time-saving trick: “To get these bold ribbons, I did a foilyage technique with weaves of 3 and 4. My sections are thin, but my weaves are thick. Secondly, once foils are placed, I apply color to the gray so both can process concurrently. This not only saves time for the hairdresser, but for clients who don’t want to be in the salon for hours on end. You’re working smarter and profiting, while the client is able to leave with a whole new look and gray coverage.”
