Experience is everything…
Peter is a true veteran hairdresser, who’s been in the industry for — ready? — 50 years.
The Salon’s calling card…
Color and lightening techniques in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Inspiring education…
“My favorite education moments are from our Assistant Advancement Program, where we train new stylists and watch them grow.”

Salon goals for 2024…
Increased social media presence and continue to grow the team.
The secret sauce…
“The future of salon success is in our education system. Our ever-changing business relies on keeping current.”

INTRODUCING…Z HAIR ACADEMY

Their experience is unparalleled…
Ron has been a hairdresser for 50 years; Judi for 40. And the past 20 of those collective years have included founding, running, and expanding Z Hair Academy, their four-location cosmetology school in Kansas and Missouri.
The path they followed…
They founded Z Hair Academy in 2004, after many years in the salon industry. “We created our cosmetology school based on our experience and our desire to elevate the cosmetology-school industry, and to share our passion for the next generation of hairdressers.” Their vast industry experience gave them an exceptionally knowledgeable platform on which to build their business.
The pair owned salons in Dallas and were both Brand Educators – Ron, an international designer for Zotos, and Ron and Judi together for Farouk Systems.
They owned an Armstrong McCall Beauty Supply, providing products, service, and education to salons in Alabama.
They were educators for both private and community college cosmetology programs.
Business goals for 2024…
“To continue to grow as a company and provide a great working environment for our team and our students.”
Claim to fame …
Exceptional texture cutting and styling. And preparing graduates who excel in all salon positions.

What keeps them inspired…
“Seeing the creativity and growth in our students and graduates; and knowing that they have the power in their hands to create a beautiful life! There’s no better feeling than when a student has an “aha moment.” The moment they get it is pure JOI!”
INTRODUCING…KARA WILLIAMS
Ron and Judi McKenzie, co-founders of Z Hair Academy

Hard at work…
“I’ve been a hairstylist for 20 years, and a salon owner — K Louise Boutique Salon in Philadelphia — for nine years.”
Big goals this year…
To have a six-figure salon team!
People flock to my salon…
“To get top-notch color with exceptional customer service and quality textured haircare.”
This keeps Kara reaching for stars…
“I love the creativity, the artistry, and the inspiration of being in the pro beauty industry. Being able to live outside the box at all times, and create “pretty” on my own terms. I love how we share so many similarities, but inspire each other with our differences.”
Her commitment to diversity…
“Often, we walk out of cosmetology school well-versed in white hair, but [have to] learn to do Black hair by experimenting on ourselves, our friends, and our family. My salon is multi-cultural – servicing clients of any texture. And I hire stylists [who are] skilled in texture and color…making sure that any and all feel welcome in our salon space is extremely important.”
In tune with the times…
“For our salon playlist, we stick with mellow R&B, both new and old-school. For years, our go-to was the Solange channel on Pandora; and it eventually morphed into our own specialty station that clients ask for all the time!”
How Kara gives back…
“We regularly donate free services to missionaries and full-time servants who have taken a vow of poverty to dedicate their time to service. They often live in areas with no access to stylists who are well-versed in taking care of their unfamiliar hair texture. I love being able to provide for them, because looking good leads to feeling good when they’re doing such self-sacrificing work.”
