Create a cool, earthy, rich blonde that accents the client’s warm skin tone without washing her out, while embracing the natural look she loves. “I wanted to provide contrast between her natural level and her highlighted hair that didn’t look harsh against one another,” explains Jeannetta.

These pro tips are key…

Nail that raw lift:“Make sure you’ve lifted the hair enough to provide a clean palette for coolness. I usually lift past my desired result by one to two levels.”

Control the underlying pigment:Don’t be afraid to “tone down” one-to-two levels, or even user deeper levels in your formula to get neutral brown on a clean lift. “You are formulating to provide balanced tonal support for color longevity.”

Why this works:You’re lifting past the underlying pigment (that would have otherwise contributed uncontrolled warmth that you don’t need); replaced it with balanced brown (N); and then added coolness with SB. “The brown prevents the SB and V to go fully silver, leaving you with this unique earthy shade that is cool, but still bright in an interesting way,” says Jeannetta. “The reflection is crazy!”
