This Beautiful Bridal ‘Do Morphs For The After-Party

SAY I ‘DO

With Joico Celebrity Artist, Jill Buck, of 901 Salon

Here’s some wedding-day genius from Joico Celebrity Artist, Jill Buck, of LA’s Nine Zero One Salon: a half-up/half-down ‘do that uses easy twists in lieu of braids to fashion a glam look. The secret switcheroo? You can quickly untwist it for the reception and let hair go wild, wavy, and wedding-night sexy. Jill’s shows you the step-by-steps, here:

TO HAVE AND TO HOLD
The key to any updo – and especially any updo that’s going to be deconstructed later – is to use a styler that will loyally stay with you for the long haul. Jill’s favorite is JoiWhip Firm Hold Design Foam – a va-va-voom mousse that delivers extraordinary hold and crunch-free volume in the quest for the ‘do of your dreams. This airy “poof” of protection leaves hair luxuriously shiny, soft, and protected from pollution and the rigors of heat styling, thanks to the power of nourishing Moringa Seed Oil. Apply it to damp hair before blow-drying.

THE BLOW-DRY AND CURL GO HAND-IN-HAND
In a two-step move, Jill clips half the hair up and out of the way, while blowdrying lower sections with a large round brush. She then continues to dry the upper sections, piece by piece. Next comes Heat Hero Glossing Thermal Protector, which acts as a protective shield between the intense heat and your delicate hair strands, infusing and fortifying hair with a healthy, glossy sheen that locks out dulling pollutants

When hair’s dry, she pivots to a large-barrel curling iron and creates long, loose curls – locking them in with JoiMist Firm Protective Finishing Spray – a Level-9 hold multitasker that commits wedding style to memory with shine, softness, and movement; while protecting her hair from the elements. Nothing crunchy. Nothing damaging. Nothing untouchable.

CREATE A SOLID FOUNDATION

It’s the key to a good marriage and the key to a half-do that holds. Jill achieves this with Rise-Up Powder Spray, concentrating the nozzle on the area in the back of the head that she’ll be twisting and pinning. Delivering immediate volume and texture in a single, breezy “puff” of product, it delivers a lightweight, fine-mist powder with long-lasting hold, shine, and pollution protection without a trace of visible residue.

TYING THE KNOT
A criss-cross at the back of the head starts the union of hair taken from both sides; it’s then tied into a knot and secured with mini claw clips. (Jill loves them because they provide structure and hold for all the bobby pinning to come.) She then continues pulling and twisting pieces from the front; securing them into the strong base of the ‘do until she’s created an intricate style that guests will see as the bride’s back is turned. Another pass of JoiMist Firm Protective Finishing Spray locks the look into place.

LET LOOSE AND LOVE THOSE CURLS
Want to let your hair down when the dancing begins? The beauty of using Jill’s twisting method (in lieu of braids) is that they don’t leave creases or marks when you pull out all the pins and shake your hair out. Cheers all around!
