Signature California Blonde

The Artist: Nine Zero One Salon owner, Nikki Lee
The Story: Cali Blondes are practically a calling card for one of LA’s most talked-about salons. And Nikki approaches a lightened-up look in her uniquely Pro way – using products that maintain the health of the hair, and techniques that bring out blonde beautifully.
Nikki’s Trick: Apply Blonde Life Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil to dry hair to protect strands before adding Lightener.
No-Fail Tips:
• Use a finer weave at the beginning, and then move your way to the front with back-to-back foils.
• Apply color on a middle part (even if the client doesn’t part her hair this way), and then go back and smudge the roots.
• For hair outside of the foil, tease strands and tip off with color on some pieces for added dimension.

Elegant Extensions
The Artist: Nine Zero One Salon owner, Nikki Lee
The Story: “Extensions are an excellent way to allow your client to grow out their hair and maintain hair health,” says Nikki, who loves to take progress photos every time a client comes in so she can help them see the change.
“It’s a great money-maker – in fact, it’s a full other business — so treat it as such.”

She should know: Extensions were actually at the heart of Nikki and Riawna’s journey, and sparked their artistic collaboration.
No-Fail Tips:
• Use a full row to add volume and bulk.
• If your client has curly hair, apply extensions evenly everywhere; follow the shape of the head rather than putting them in straight across.
• Apply many rows, alternating placement each time.

Curly Dry Shag, Cut-And-Color

The Artist: Nine Zero One Salon owner, Riawna Capri
The Story: Gone are the days of doing rigid, step-by-step dry cuts the old beauty-school way. Riawna comes at the process artistically, treating the technique like sculpture and painting. The results? Sexy, modern, and uniquely structured.
Riawna’s Trick: When cutting dry hair, take a small section and twist it before scissoring.
No-Fail Tips:
• For curly-headed clients, start foiling in the front; then section down the middle of the back in one-inch sections.
• Check on hair halfway through to see how quickly they are processing, and adjust your volume accordingly.
• With hair that’s outside of foils, tease and highlight to add dimension.
Using the Joico Foils that they love at Nine Zero One Salon, Riawna fitted the color to the curl pattern, with internal highlighting for curly hair.
Shag Cut on Wet Hair

The Artist: Nine Zero One Salon owner, Riawna Capri
The Story: It’s rare to see a pro demo the same cut on both wet and dry hair, but Riawna made it happen – showing the true versatility in approaching curly-hair transformations.
Riawna’s Trick: Only whip out the thinning shears when curly hair is exceptionally thick.
