IN WITH A BANG

Women with red hair and bangs

There’s good reason for the expression, “more bang for the buck.” That’s because cutting bangs is possibly the quickest and least expensive way to make a major hair change.

2023 IDEAS…

☆Take it in baby steps: “Suitability is key whenever cutting and committing to a fringe,” says Richard Mannah. “I normally like to leave it a little longer at first, and go shorter if I feel it will suit the clients face shape.”

☆Go bold: “I love the idea of making a statement, and bangs are always a quick and easy way to change your look with the snip of a shear,” says Ricardo Santiago. “This year, I say go bold with a strong, straight-across fringe; it pairs well with most hair styles, from a classic bob to an updated textured/layered haircut.”

COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES

Changing your color is an investment move that delivers major good feels.

2023 IDEAS…

☆Go to the dark side: “If you’re tired of constantly touching up those pre-lightened roots, perhaps it’s time to go a little darker and more natural,” says Richard, who believes that less can be more.

☆Add contrast: “Sometimes it can be scary to think about adding depth or a lowlight into hair,” says Jill, “but adding contrast (aka, lowlights) is a fresh, cool way to give your hair color a change without it feeling drastic!” Bonus: It can make hair look and feel super healthy, AND a new color can also completely change your look without having to cut a lot of hair off.

☆Warm things up: “We are seeing gingers really coming alive; and they’ll continue to evolve as we go into the New Year,” says Ricardo. “Expect some vibrant shades of red and copper, or even pops of blonde to transition towards summer! Let 2023 be the year of ‘WARM’ tones!”

☆Take a rest: “Giving your hair a temporary break from constant chemical services is also a good thing,” says Richard.”

AND…CUT!

Snip, snip go the shears and before you know it, you’re facing the New Year with a spring in your step.

2023 IDEAS…

☆Get a major haircut: “Go for it!” urges Jill, who says just say no to those endless light trims. “Treat yourself to an appointment with a talented artist who will give you a good, healthy haircut with intention! Good cuts last a long time, and statement cuts are trending big time. Even short hair is making a major comeback!”

☆Layer it up: “If you’ve been wearing the same length for years, be brave and go for layers…it’s time to change,” says Ricardo.

☆Classic bob: It might seem like a tame move, but if you’ve been sporting long hair forever, cutting hair into a bob is a major declaration. (If you’re anxious, start with the Lob—a less abbreviated version that’s shoulder length rather than chin length.)

DO A STYLE PIVOT

Even if you’re not ready to change your cut or color, there are plenty of tweaks that deliver big impact – the kind that elicit those OMG, your hair looks so cute! comments.

2023 IDEAS…

☆Celebrate your curls: “If you have a natural wave or curl to your hair, don’t be afraid to wear it more natural.” Richard recommends Curl Confidence Defining Crème — a frizz-busting boost of shine, hydration, and movement without old-school crunchy stiffness. “Apply to wet hair and diffuse for that controlled wave or curl,” he advises.

☆Move your part: May seem like a duh, but moving from a side part to an edgy center look is distinctive, different, and fresh. (BTW: vice-versa works, too!)

☆Add an accessory: “Mid ponytails just at the occipital bone are the most all-around flattering,” says Jill, who loves to add a silk bow for extra flourish.

☆Try a big, bouncy blowout: “We’re still seeing trends from the 90s going strong, so consider giving yourself a voluminous round-brush blowout with that extra little flip at the ends,” advises Ricardo. “The great thing about a good strong blow-dry is that it’s a great base to build on other styles — like beautiful bouncy ponytails, or next-day curling.” (Pro tip: Use Dream Blowout Protection Crème to shield hair from heat and lock in your style.)

☆Braid “3-day” hair: Instead of going for your usual dirty-hair-day ponytail, Ricardo recommends a braid instead. “I love a good braid to hide any previous style imperfections; and by that third day, Weekend Hair will come to the rescue to tame any oiliness, while adding a soft support for texture.”
